Bridges linking Japan and Sweden


For the second year was a major delegation from Japan on a visit to Malmö - Copenhagen region, partly to visit the Oresund Bridge, partly to inaugurate the exhibition "Children Build Bridges" in the Malmo City Hall. Two of the world´s longest cable bridges are the Oresund Bridge and Seto-Ohashi bridge, 7.8 and 9.4 km long. In Japan is the bridge connecting the provinces of Kagawa and Okayama, as the Oresund Bridge links Scania and Zealand

12 representatives from Okayama and Takamatsu, the capital of Kagawa, Japan, were in Malmö City Hall when Takamasa Koshimune, President of Sanyo Shimbun newspaper and Okayama Corporate Executives, together with Malmö’s mayor Kjell-Arne Landgren inaugurated the exhibition "Children build bridges".

Also the Japanese industrial magnate Nakashima Motoyoshi and Consul-General of Japan Leif Almö attended. Thousands of drawings were received in Japan and the winners were Takasashi Satohi 12 years and Miyu Takao, 14 years (see photo). They won the first prize, a trip to the Øresund Region.
Both held speeches at City Hall.

The students from Bergaskolan presented their drawings as well.
After the inauguration, City of Malmö invited all to refreshments in the beautiful Town Hall where the Mayor Kjell- Arne Landgren in an inspiring way presented the Danish-Swedish royal portraits through the centuries.

the governor of Kagawa, Takeki Manabe, to Leif and Sonja Almö.

On a short visit in Malmö was also Matsuda Kiyohiro, President of Japan Railways Shikoku. Mr Matsuda presented a special invitation from Kagawa governor Takeki Manabe to Consul General Leif Almö with wife to visit the International Setouchi Art Festival 2010, a 105-day arts festival which will be displayed on seven islands in the Seto Inland Sea.

During the week the delegation also visited Copenhagen for one day but also Bergaskolan where education manager Mats Bååth presented his school and the students who won the corresponding drawing contest in Malmo.
Project Coordinator of the visit was Mats Bruzaeus, former technical attaché at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo and business manager of the city of Malmö. Today Mats Bruzaeus successfully runs a recruitment company in Japan.
The exhibition in the Malmo City Hall is open for a week.
